Abstract:
The characterization of the samples collected from the Historical Walls of Charles V in Syracuse represents a typical example of diagnostic research that helps the recovery of architectural heritage. Different analysis techniques were used during that work in order to have more information about the materials, in particular the mortar. The analyses of the two samples of the city walls give informations about the chemicl-physical features of the mortar, the type of the mortar and the deterioration process. This phase is important for the knowledge of building before recovery intervention.
